Debates and Arguments

Home educating your children helps combat poor debates and arguments

Have you ever watched a political debate? There are plenty of them on TV these days, whether it is election season or not. Have you sat cringing at what you are seeing and hearing? If so, it is hardly a surprise. Whoever we think is right or wrong, we have to concede that the actual level of debate is very poor. Sometimes the debate descends into name-calling, while other times it seems to be a self-congratulatory, “Aren’t we all great for our wonderful policies?” discussion. Either way, there is no real debate about the issues or policies at hand.

Debate and disagreement are important because they help us to better understand our arguments and they can help us to improve our ideas. If our thinking is faulty, we can talk it out and fix where we are going wrong. If we are in the wrong, we can learn this from people with opposing views. A proper argument can help everyone involved to look at the issues and tweak, or even completely change, their points of view.

Taking your children out of school and educating them at home gives you the opportunity to combat this weak thinking. You will be able to research a topic so thoroughly that your children will be able to debate anyone. Away from the low standards in a classroom, you can help your children construct a sound argument and give your children every advantage to be fully equipped to rise to the top in any field of their choosing.

At TruEd we are keen to support you, so please get in touch if you have a home education need.
